Principals Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
“Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8).
This week is Sabbath Week at St Thomas More’s. The word Sabbath comes from a Hebrew word meaning rest. Before the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Sabbath day commemorated God’s day of rest after God finished the Creation. We read in the book of Genesis that God created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, which God called days: “And on the seventh day God finished the work that God had done, and God rested on the seventh day from all the work that God had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it…” (Genesis 2:2–3).
We have a Sabbath Week at St Thomas More’s every term – always in Week 7. It’s a meeting free week, so, no Admin, Staff and Leadership Team meetings. There is no formal homework set for our students; however, students are strongly encouraged to read every night. Families are encouraged to participate in Sabbath Week at home. Some ideas include: a games night, a TV-free night, dinner by the lake, a family bike ride.
Community Movie Night
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Movie (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) and BBQ event tomorrow evening. It starts at 6pm and the movie will screen from 6:30pm. Students are welcome to bring along a cushion or pillow from home.
Swimming Carnival
This Friday is our Yr 3 to 6 Swimming Carnival. The bus departs at 9:15am and will return by 2:30pm. Thanks to all our parent helpers – we couldn’t run the event without you! All students, whether participating or not, will be attending CISAC. There is no supervision available at school.
Library borrowing
Library borrowing will take place every Monday for ALL students. I’d like to congratulate Mrs Madeleine Reid on her successful appointment to the role of Teacher Librarian for 2019.
Volunteers for Class Coordinators
We are still looking for parent volunteers to be the class coordinators for the following classes. Being a class contact is a great way to get to know families in your child’s class and be involved in the school community. If you are interested in being a class contact, please contact the Front Office.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Wiley
Principal.
