Dear Parents and Carers,
The Yr 5/6 students have been researching social services available to children and youth, of which, there is quite a spectrum. The students have presented their research to the class and I have had the privilege of observing their short presentations. I was struck by the new knowledge they had gained and the genuine empathy and respect the students displayed when presenting these services. It’s so important that our young people know about the services they can reach out to when feeling worried, anxious, sad or in need of personal support.
Here are a few ways you can tell if your child is at risk of developing mental health concerns:
- Regularly anxious or distressed
- Struggling to overcome recurring problems
- Unable to sleep, eat or concentrate
- Avoiding regular social or family activities
- Demonstrating/experiencing challenging behaviours at home/school/community
If needed you can reach out for support available to you and your children. Listed below are just a few -

Centred in Learning
This Friday at our morning assembly we will present our affirmations for the fortnight. Our students have been working very hard.
Tennis Lessons
Our annual tennis lessons will start this Friday with ACT Tennis. This is for all students in Kinder to Yr 6.
Congratulations to Annabelle Graham (Yr 6) on being awarded the Debbie Allen trophy for most improved junior girl at the Campbell Tennis Club. We’re so proud of you Annabelle.
Battle for Australia
Our Yr 6 school captains, Tara and Thomas, will represent our school at the 75th Anniversary of the end of the 2nd World War, and of Victory in the Pacific Day at this time of the year. This year it will be held at the Australian War Memorial in their Last Post Ceremony on BFA Day. Tara and Thomas will lay the wreath. The AWM will be live streaming the ceremony on YouTube and Facebook. Brenda Galvin, our DSM, will accompany the captains.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Wiley
Principal
Dance Term 3
As many of you are aware, our community looks forward to a dance display at the end of Term 3. Sadly, due to current COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to hold this event this year.
The children are still participating in weekly dance lessons and learning a class routine.
We anticipate that we are will be able to film each class dance and be able to share this with our families. The link for each class will only be shared with parents/carers of that class and we ask that you do not reproduce or share this video with others or through your social media connections.
We understand that some parents/carers do not wish for their child’s image to be shared with other families. If you DO NOT wish for your child to be filmed, please email me (nicole.mikkonen@cg.catholic.edu.au) before this Friday August 28th to inform me of your decision.
Your child will still participate in the weekly dance lessons. When we film, your child will be asked to stand to the side so that their image is not captured.
Thank you,
Nicole Mikkonen
Assistant Principal
Storyteller Virtual Incursion
Tomorrow, students will be treated to the sensational storytelling of guest presenter, Valanga Khoza. We are very much looking forward to the vibrant energy Valanga will share during his performance. It’s sure to spark curiosity and creativity amongst our students.
MS Readathon Update
There are only a few days to go with our MS Readathon adventure this year and it’s the last chance for students to log their reading. Can we reach 1000 books by the end of August?
