Dear Parents and Carers,
National Child Protection Week 2020
We are in the middle of National Child Protection Week which promotes the safety and wellbeing of Australian children. (It runs from 6 to 12 September 2020). Parents and carers play a key role in guiding their children as they first encounter the online world and begin to learn through exploration, play and social interaction. The online world has changed so much over the years, and in many respects, it continues to cause some challenges for our primary age students.
More and more today we hear of our primary students having social media accounts. Many of their accounts are closely monitored by parents. It’s imperative that you as parents know what’s happening in your child’s online presence because both the physical age of your child and their level of maturity and resilience can affect their ability to have positive experiences on social media. Yesterday we put a warning up on our Facebook page regarding the recent activity on Tik Tok and asked parents to be aware of their child’s social media activity. It seems this video has spread to other internet sites.
Each social media site and app has its own criteria for minimum age requirements. Most require users to be at least 13 years of age before they can register, although some sites are created especially for children under 13.
Top 5 Online Safety Tips for Kids
- Set up your child’s device to protect their information.
- Remind your child regularly to tell an adult if they see anything online that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
- Limit who can contact your child when they’re playing games.
- Stop all contact with anyone online who asks your child to do anything they don’t want to do. Report and block them.
- Implore your child to ask for help if anything online is bothering them.

Painting - Holy Faith Hall
The painters have been onsite this week. Our hall kitchenette has been completed and today the painters worked on the entrance/bag area. On the weekend they will paint the stage/hall area.
OSHC Proposals
All site visits have occurred from potential outside of school care providers. I expect to receive the proposals at the end of Week 9. From there, the Review Committee will meet to do their evaluations.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Ethan Golder (Yr 6) and Dominic Shoebridge (Yr 5) on being selected to represent the ACT in the Under 12s cricket team. We are very proud!
