Dear Parents and Carers,
“Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8).
This week is Sabbath Week at St Thomas More’s. The word Sabbath comes from a Hebrew word meaning rest. Before the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Sabbath day commemorated God’s day of rest after God finished the Creation. We read in the book of Genesis that God created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, which God called days: “And on the seventh day God finished the work that God had done, and God rested on the seventh day from all the work that God had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it…” (Genesis 2:2–3).
We have a Sabbath Week at St Thomas More’s every term – always in Week 7. It’s a meeting free week, so, no Admin, Staff and Leadership Team meetings. There is no formal homework set for our students; however, students are strongly encouraged to read every night. Families are encouraged to participate in Sabbath Week at home. Some ideas include: a games night, a TV-free night, dinner by the lake, a family bike ride.

Journey with Jesus Retreat
On Friday 26th of March, CSYMA (Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia) will be running an all-day retreat for our Year 5 and 6 students at St Thomas More.
The day focuses around equipping each child with a metaphorical ‘backpack of faith’ to take with them on the journey of life. Inside the backpack, they will be introduced to some helpful tools they can pull out for the ups and downs, new beginnings and changes like starting high school.
Our Youth Minister Anh and her team will lead the retreat with engaging games, talks and small group discussions.
It will be a uniform free day for year 5 and 6. Pizza lunch will be provided for the students.
Sacrament of First Reconciliation
We continue to pray for our students who are preparing for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. The celebration of the Sacrament will take place on Saturday 27th March. Our Year Two students will participate in a retreat day on the morning of Wednesday 24th of March. Thank you Father Emil and our Youth Minister Anh for running this retreat.
