Dear Parents and Carers,
Holy Day of Obligation
This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady in heaven. Apart from Sundays and Christmas Day it is the only other day where the Church requires Catholics to attend Mass.
60 Years Wine and Trivia Night
Planning for our Wine and Trivia night is well underway. It’s on Friday the 3rd of
September, starting at 6:30pm. Tables of 8 will be sold for $80, with the option of purchasing a platter. (This ticket prices includes a raffle ticket and participation in the trivia). Tickets go on sale today on the QKR app. Get in quick because we have a ticket quota due to COVID restrictions.
Father’s Day Breakfast – Save the date
On Thursday September 2 we will be hosting a Father’s Day breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 8:15am.

Sacrament of Confirmation
Enrolment for the Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Sunday 22 August after the 9:30 am Parish Mass. The celebration of the Sacrament will take place at 6pm on Saturday 16th October.
Parish Mass
Kindergarten and Year One are attending the Parish Mass at 10am this Friday 13th of August. Parents of students in these grades are most welcome to join the classes at Mass.
Centred in Faith Gatherings
Thank you Year One who ran our Centred in Faith Gathering on Monday. The Year One students reminded us of Mary’s many special qualities. 3/4 W are running our next Centred in Faith Gathering at 9:00 am Monday 23rd of August.
Whole School Mass
This year marks the 60th Anniversary of St Thomas More Primary School. Our school was founded by the Holy Faith Nuns, who arrived from Glasnevin in Ireland in 1961. As well as serving the children of the parish, the school welcomed the children of the nearby Royal Military College, Duntroon. We will give thanks for the service of the Holy Faith Nuns at a Whole School Mass on Friday the 3rd of September at 10am.
CHANGE OF DATE “Archdiocesan Women’s Taskforce Dinner”
The Mary Magdalene dinner has moved to the post-COVID-lock-down date of Friday 3rd September, 6.30pm at the Southern Cross Club, Woden. Current tickets remain valid for Fri 3rd September. Lunchtime Craft
We will be continuing with our weekly lunchtime craft activities on a Thursday including lego, colouring and giant chess in the Library. We are also decorating in time for Book Week next week. Come along and decorate with us!
Soldier On
Solider On have a page on their website which lists all their upcoming events. These events locally include Frontline Yoga and digital photography.
Join Soldier On every Wednesday for a Wellbeing walk. New locations will be announced every Friday for the following week. After the walk they will stop for a coffee catch up. Please RSVP your interest to act@soldieron.org.au

Book Week Events
Book Week- Monday 23rd – 27th August
The theme for Book Week this year is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’.
PLEASE READ as we have a few changes to our events this year:
Book Week Parade- Wed 25th August
Commencing at 9am at our school hall, you are invited to attend the annual Book Week Parade. We will celebrate the fun of dressing up, creativity of costumes and participation in the parade and sharing their costume inspiration.
Cake and Bake Stall- Mon 23rd August
Our Year 5/6 students will whip up cakes to display in the Library inspired by a favourite storybook. Students can purchase a piece of cake for a gold coin at recess.
Author Visit- Shelly Unwin- Thurs 19th Aug (Years Kinder – 3/4)
Next week, Shelly Unwin is coming to St Thomas More’s. Shelly is a children’s author, speaker and Australia Reads Ambassador. Shelly is the author of Blast Off!, a narrative non-fiction space adventure and There’s a Baddie Running Through this Book.
Described as ‘effervescent’ and commended for leaving the students abuzz, Shelly is quickly making her mark in the industry for sharing her contagious joy of books.
Author Visit-Tania McCartney
Unfortunately, Tania McCartney, visit has been impacted by the current COVID situation and she will be unable to conduct her workshops as planned.
‘Out of this World’ Exhibition, Belconnen Arts Centre- Tues 31st Aug (Years 5/6)
Students in Year 5/6 will now travel to the Belconnen Arts Centre to
participate in a writing workshop and view the current exhibition titled ‘Other Worlds: Exploring the Universe’.
The exhibition is centred around the work of author Graeme Base.
Snuggle Up and Read
Sadly, will we not be able to hold the Snuggle Up and Read event this year due to COVID restrictions. As it is a hugely popular event, we are endeavouring to organise another book event in Term 4.
