Welcome back to Term Two! We hope you had a restful and Holy Easter with your loved ones and that your children are excited to continue their learning at school. The students were very settled this morning, particularly 5/6W who had their first day in their new classroom.
Parish Mass Times Survey
The inner north Catholic parishes are currently facing a shortage of priests. As such, weekend mass times may need to be changed to relieve the current pressure on priests.
The Parish will work towards Mass times that are convenient for the largest number of people, support sacramental programs and school affiliations whilst retaining a sense of community at each Parish.
We would ask all families to complete this survey so that the school has a voice in these discussions. The results of the survey will have an impact on our practising Catholic families, families engaging in sacramental programs for their children and families who celebrate the sacraments with their child's cohort.
The survey should only take a few minutes and can be completed by following this link.
Enrolment Period
Enrolment period for 2024 commences next week and there are a number of strategies in place to welcome new students to our school. Keep your eyes out for two buses advertising St Thomas More's and Team Kids driving around Canberra!
Whilst buses, social media advertising, flyers and signs help, the biggest impact on enrolments at any school is word of mouth from families. There are many ways you can support and spread the word of our school to others. These include:
- Sharing the enrolment video or other positive information about the school on social media
- Taking flyers to the tearoom at work or popping them in the letterbox of families living nearby
- Letting friends and family with children know about the great things happening at our school and encouraging them to attend our open days
- Offering to attend our open days or contact families wanting to hear a parent's perspective of our school.
Please get in contact if you would like to support our enrolment in any way. For families with children in Preschool, we would ask that your enrolment is complete by 26 May to secure your place.
Term Events
We look forward to commemorating ANZAC Day as a community this Friday from 10:30am in the Hall. We will still have our Centred in Learning Gathering at 8:50am to hand our affirmations for Weeks 9 and 10 last term.
We have a number of other school events coming up this term including our Mother's Day Breakfast, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals, and School Disco. As we continue to use the full functionality of Compass you will notice that the Cross Country Carnival invites parents to join the carnival as a volunteer. We understand the complexities of work and family life so if you are unable to attend as a volunteer simply decline this offer.
We will also be holding an Open Community Council Meeting on Tuesday 16 May from 6:00 pm in Holy Faith Hall. The open meeting is an opportunity for you to hear about the work the council is undertaking and to have your say on council matters. We will also be taking the opportunity during the council meeting to launch the Masterplan for the campus that was developed over the past 14 months. An RSVP will be placed in next weeks More Reminders.
Mother's Day Raffle
It is that time of year again when we call for donations towards our Mother's Day Raffle. DO you have any lovely gifts that are not needed and could be used as raffle prizes? We will be accepting donations towards the raffle for the next two weeks. Donations can be dropped into the front office. Thank you to 3/4G and Year 1 who will be coordinating the raffle and Mother's Day breakfast.
We are also pleased to announce that Woolworths Majura has sponsored a portion of our Mother's Day Raffle and our School Disco for 2023.
On Monday Paris Dounoukos and I met store manager Michael and were excited to fill two trolleys worth of goodies for both events. Michael also mentioned that they are currently recruiting staff so if you know of anyone looking for work please send them to Woolworths Majura and ask for Michael! Thank you Woolies for supporting our school community.
