Think You Know Workshop
We look forward to welcoming parents to the library, or online, this evening for the ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety Workshop. The workshop will be an excellent opportunity to reflect on the practices you currently have in place and strategies you can adopt with your children in the future. The workshop will commence at 6pm. Here is the link to the MS Teams meeting if you are unable to join in person:
Family Event
Catholic School Parents Canberra and Goulburn are offering a free Family Event with Andrew Fuller, being hosted at St John Paul II College on Tuesday 5 September at 6pm. The event aims to bring families from across the Archdiocese together and give them practical ways they can support their children in their learning. Please see the flyer attached.
An Affirmation from one of our Families
'The teachers all really care about the students. All the teachers know all the students which is lovely. Students between grades know each other and support one another.'
St Thomas More's Parent Survey Response 2023
Luke Donnelly
Principal
Following our meeting last night, the Community Council would like to notify you of the outcomes of some of our discussions, particularly those relating to the Tell Them From Me survey results.
- Council Email - We will be launching a Community Council email address for parents to get in contact with suggestions and queries for our council to support engagement in our community.
- Homework Policy - The council affirmed the revised Homework Policy presented by Nicole Mikkonen.
- Fundraising Targets - The results of the surveys showed strong support for an upgraded Senior Playground using council raised funds and the contribution of 10% of funds raised to Catholic Charities.
- Canteen - The feedback regarding the canteen was very diverse. After much discussion, the decision was made to continue with an over the counter sales canteen aligned with the healthy canteens initiative and to pursue hot food options on a semi-regular basis. We will update you with information regarding external providers as we gather it.
- Community Event - Save the date for Friday 20 October for our St Thomas More's Community Event with music and entertainment provided by the ADFA Band. This is a rare opportunity to hear the band outside of official Defence gatherings. It is sure to be a wonderful evening for both our families and the wider Campbell community!
Numeracy Week
Last week, the students had the opportunity to participate in the Matific Maths Olympiad. Our school ended up ranking 23rd in the competition, with 33 of our students reaching their goal of 150 stars. That was a huge effort! It was great hearing the students and their teachers talking about the mathematical challenges they encountered as they applied their knowledge to the new situations presented to them by Matific. Your children will receive a certificate this week for their efforts.
Dear parents and carers,
During lunch time clubs on 23rd August we are running an optional Pictureproducts melamine plate or clock activity. Your child's unique artwork will be transformed into a durable, high-quality melamine Pictureplate or clock that will last a lifetime.
A small percentage of the cost of the plate or clock will go towards fundraising for Legacy which does wonderful work for our Defence Veterans.
Both decorative and useful, Pictureplates and clocks make wonderful mementos. Your child can use photos, markers, paints, and handprints to create their artworks, and you can have as many copies made as you'd like, so it's a fantastic gift idea for grandparents and other family members. We expect plates to be delivered in November in time for Christmas.
We are aware of the cost-of-living pressure facing all families so please keep in mind this activity is optional and there is no pressure to participate.
We recommend you do a practice run with your child at home so they know what design they will draw on their Pictureplates or clocks. Simply grab an A4 piece of paper, copy the outline of a dinner plate and create a design together that you are happy with. During lunchtime they will copy the design onto their template and add any additional photos or craft items to their final copy.
