Campbell Community Celebration
It is hard to believe that we have just completed the inaugural Campbell Community Celebration on Friday night! The sun was shining, the food vans were serving delicious meals, there were glitter tattoos, face paint and entertainment from the ADFA Band. It truly was a night to remember.
Thank you to Caitrin Dunn who coordinated our event. Caitrin spent months finding the right date for the ADFA Band and negotiating with our food vans to cater to our needs. In addition to this, were the hours spent preparing signs, delivering posters and setting up and packing up on the day. Special thanks also must go to Jacqui Owen, Paris Dounoukos, Jo Gale, our Parish Pastoral Council, TeamKids and all other parents who also contributed in many ways.
We would finally like to acknowledge the Community Council for their vision of introducing a family event to our calendar year to strengthen our parent engagement. We look forward to setting a date for the 2024 Campbell Community Celebration.
Staffing News
Yesterday it was announced that Mrs. Skye McPadden has been appointed to the role of Acting Religious Education Coordinator (REC) at St Thomas More's in 2024 as Mrs. Samantha Mance takes up the role of Acting Assistant Principal at Sts Peter and Paul in Garran. Skye is currently the REC at St Thomas Aquinas and will bring her knowledge and leadership skills with her to St Thomas More's. We look forward to welcoming Skye in 2024.
School Photos
School photos will be taking place this coming Tuesday 31 October from 8:50am. It is imperative that all students are dressed in their full school uniform inline with our uniform policy which can be found on our website. Students will need to be at school on time as the photographers run to a tight schedule that will not be changed due to students running late.
Class Placements 2024
The Leadership Team and staff will soon begin the process of creating class groups in 3/4 and 5/6 for next year. When compiling classes, we take into consideration several factors. This process involves many discussions and ensuring we are making the best fit for each and every child. To support our students, we will be inviting them to write 5 friends that they would like to see in their class for next year. When creating the classes, our staff will ensure each student has at least one friend from their list. You may like to discuss this list with your child at home in the coming weeks.
We believe that every teacher at our school is able to teach any child at our school and will therefore not accept requests for specific teachers. If there is information regarding your child and their class placement that you feel the school is not already aware of and would like considered, please email it to me. Requests from previous years will not be taken into consideration.
The students will be told their class before our Step Up Afternoon on Wednesday 13 December.
Mission Fete and Colour Run
Our Colour Run and Mission Fete is now 10 days away. We hope your children are enjoying collecting sponsors from family, friends and neighbours so that they can have tickets in our prize draw! The day will commence with students and families filling our wicking garden beds, after recess our leaders will host the missions fete and then at 2pm we will head to the hall for the major prize draw. We are lucky to have Defence Bank on board as our major sponsor in 2023 and they will be there to help hand out the prizes!
World Teachers' Day
This Friday is World Teachers' Day, a day to celebrate and show our appreciation for teachers. Our Community Council have generously contributed to a special vote of thanks for the teachers, however, you might also like to organise for your child to celebrate their teacher on Friday. Taking the time to write a card with kind words goes a long way!
Luke Donnelly
Principal
Congratulations to the following students who will be presented with a certificate which reflects an affirmation from their teacher. These affirmations will highlight their applications to their learning as well as affirm how they have been a person of Wisdom, Courage, and Peace. Affirmations will be handed out at 8.50am on Friday morning. Parents are welcome to attend. |

Whole School Rosary
Thank you to Father Emil, Mrs Washington and some of our 3/4 students who led us in our Whole School Rosary last Friday. Each child in the school joined Father Emil using a set of Rosary Beads to pray the Rosary. Each year the month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. The liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. |
Retreat Day for Confirmation
Many thanks to Father Emil and Ariana Strmota who facilitated our Retreat Day for our Year Six students and children from the School of Religion who are preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament will be celebrated on Sunday 29th October at the 9:30 am Mass. All are welcome to attend the Mass.
Year 1 and 5/6G at Mass
Families of children in Year 1 and 5/6 Green are invited to attend our Parish Mass on Friday 27th of October at 10:00am with these classes.
Centred in Faith Gathering
Our next Centred in Faith Gathering will be run by 5/6 Green at 8:50am on Friday 3rd November. The students will explain where the funds raised through our Mission Fete and Colour Run will go after they are donated to Catholic Mission. This international organisation partners with communities, helping them to flourish by supporting grassroots projects, including healthcare, education, and spiritual care.
Mission Fete and Colour Run
Our Colour Run has now been launched with details in last week’s newsletter and sponsor envelopes sent home. Money can be returned to the front office on the next three Thursdays and Qkr! payments can be made at any time. Our funds will go towards the upgrade of our senior playground equipment with 10% of proceeds being donated to Catholic Missions.
Yours in Christ,
Samantha Mance
Religious Education Coordinator
5/6 had a fantastic time on their excursion to Ginninderry yesterday. We learnt how they are conserving the environment through dedicated conservation and regeneration projects whilst building sustainable housing.
The Plates and Clocks have been delivered. They are to be picked up by parents/carers as they are fragile and we don't want any to break or get damaged before they get home.
