Dear Parents and Carers,
Sacrament of Confirmation
Last Sunday, the 21st of October, children from St Thomas More’s received the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation. Archbishop Christopher Prowse and Fr Josh Scott led the Sacrament with a sense of calm and reverence.
Thank you to the parents who brought along morning tea – it was very much appreciated. Thank you to Michael Cuddihy (Alice 4W & May Yr. 2) and Michael Shoebridge (Gabby 6G, Dominic 3G & Leah 3W) who stepped in to pour the teas and coffees, and also to Stephanie Spiller (Elke 4G & Dashel Yr. 2) who got everything ready for the morning tea and for cleaning up.

Boorowa Netball and Touch Carnival
On Friday, our school will have representatives participating in the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival. Thanks to parents who are driving on the day, managing, coaching and umpiring! Gwen Tarleton, Samantha Mance and Liz French will be attending.
Mission Mass
Today our school leaders attended the Mission Mass at the Cathedral.
Catholic Schools Netball Carnival
Our Yr 2 to Yr 6 students enjoyed half a day of netball at Calwell last Saturday. Unfortunately, the weather was not favourable, and the carnival was called off around midday. The teams played with a great sense of fun and there were some great skills on display. Thanks to Gwen Tarleton and Samantha Mance for attending. Thanks also to parents for helping on the day and an extra special thank you to Lani and Moki Di Petta (Ruby’s sisters 5W) for umpiring.
No Awards Assembly this Friday
Yours sincerely,
Julie Wiley
Principal.
TIMSS- Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study-Year 4
A number of Year 4 classes, including those at St Thomas More's Primary School, have been selected to take part in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). TIMSS is an important educational research project investigating student achievement in mathematics and science. More than 60 countries, including Australia, are participating in this study. TIMSS is an important activity to keep us, as parents and citizens, informed about how our students in Australia are performing in comparison to their peers in other countries and to compare programs of study and teaching practices. We will be able to obtain current national and international information which will help improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in our country.
Selected students will do an assessment in mathematics and science and complete a questionnaire about their experiences at home and school. There is no need for students to study specifically for the assessment as it will not affect individual students’ grades or progress in school.
All data will be kept strictly confidential and no individual student or school will be identified in published data or reports. The testing at St Thomas More's will take place on Monday 5th of November 2018.
Thank you, Sam
