Dear Parents and Carers,
Teachers have almost completed the process of writing Semester 1 reports. Below I have a copy of the descriptors for A-E Reporting (Years 1-6) so you can see what students are required to demonstrate to get a particular grade. If you look at the descriptors you can see the increasing level of complexity as students move from the E to A, bearing in mind that a ‘C’ grade is a very acceptable grade to receive as it means the student has achieved all that is required in that curriculum area.
The Kinder reporting scale is as follows – Competent, Developing, Experiencing Difficulty. The Kinder students do not receive A-E grades.
Parent/Teacher Interviews will early next term, most likely in Week 2.

Parent Commitment Agreement
From 2020 onwards offers of enrolment for schools in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Catholic School System will be conditional on parents of prospective students agreeing to be bound by the Parent Declarations and Commitments that are made in a new Parent Commitment Agreement (PCA).
The purpose of the PCA is to clearly set out at the commencement of each child’s educational journey with us the expectations that Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn has of parents within Catholic schools. It is designed to help us to keep students, teachers, support staff and parents within our schools safe, as well as to assist in the operation of our schools.
We rely on parents supporting our schools, our teachers, our support staff and Principals like myself. Co-operative working relationships with parents and students are an important part of delivering our educational programs in an environment that is both physically and psychologically safe.
All our new families will be required to sign the agreement before starting at the school.
St Thomas More’s Feast Day
We had a wonderful celebration for our Feast Day on Monday. The students really enjoyed the day and it was lovely to see them take part in a fun day after the cancellation of many of our events so far this year. Special thanks to Fr Emil for spending time with us on Monday.
Schoolzine – Absent notifications
We are moving to a new data collection system tomorrow and as a result we are asking parents to submit student absenteeism via the Schoolzine app ONLY. We have been advised that we need to use a central data collection point for noting student absenteeism. Parents using the app will help us in streamlining the new procedures that start tomorrow. If you call the school or email, you will be asked to also submit your child’s leave via the app. It would therefore make sense to only use the app in such circumstances. There is a section on the form to submit a reason or explanation to your child’s teacher. Thank you for your cooperation.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Wiley
Principal
St Thomas More Feast Day
Thank you to Father Emil who said Mass on Monday to help us celebrate our Feast Day. As there are still restrictions in place for places of worship we needed the help of Rossen de Ramos, our Youth Minister who filmed the Mass so that we could all attend. The 5/6 students were able to be present in the Church while the rest of us watched the Mass in our classrooms. Rossen has filmed a number of Masses for us over the last few months so we could still participate while not being allowed in the Church. Thank you Rossen.
