Multi-cultural Christmas Nativity Display

nav1.png

Rosary Parish Hall, Cnr. Antill St. & Phillip Ave., Watson

The Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Churches of Watson / Hackett are again hosting an Ecumenical Nativity Display.

Christmas is now so commercialised that the Gospel story of the Incarnation comes distant last to presents, baubles and Santa. The Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Churches of Watson / Hackett are hosting an Ecumenical Nativity Festival.  The display of some 160 nativity scenes from 45+ countries provides a great catalyst for class discussions and activities about the true meaning of Christmas.

The interpretation of the Bible story of Jesus’ birth, as portrayed in these Christmas nativity sets, varies according to the era and cultural context of their creation. They range from Inuit culture of the Canadian Arctic to modern day Vietnam, from 8th Century Turkey to indigenous Amazonian tribes. Among recent additions are: a Palestinian Nativity depicting the dividing wall & watch tower that divide modern Bethlehem ... the Magi from the East (modern day Iran) are locked out; a Nativity made from bullet casings from the Liberian Civil War 1989-97; and four Australian First Nation Nativities.

 Wed 4th (12:30pm to 2:30pm), Thurs 5th & Fri 6th Dec (9:30am to 2:30pm)

Parents and children are welcome after school to 5pm Wed 4th to Fri 6th Dec
