Principal's Report
It is hard to believe we are already at the end of Term Three. It has been a wonderful term of learning and community engagement at St Thomas More's. Our Community Council reflected last week on the increased participation of our families in community events with a particular highlight being our School Disco. We hope the students all have a restful holidays as they prepare to commence Term 4 on Tuesday 14 October.
Farewell Bishop Pat Power
Today Miss Shanahan and I, with our School Captains Matilda and Lachlan, attended the funeral for Bishop Pat Power. Bishop Pat was the Bishop of our Archdiocese for 25 years having been raised in the Canberra region. Upon his retirement he settled down in Campbell and become a much loved member of our parish. The students fondly remember seeing Bishop Pat and his dog Clara at Mass and more recently engaging with him as a resident of Southern Cross Nursing Home. I too hold fond memories of Bishop Pat as he stepped in last minute to marry Rachel and I after the sudden passing of our Parish Priest Fr. Phil. In May of this year Bishop Pat asked his sister to go to his room at Southern Cross to retrieve his marriage register, a small journal listing all of the couples he had married in his time as a priest. It was a touching moment to find Rachel and I's name in this piece of Canberra history. I know many of you will have your own memories of Bishop Pat and would share my sentiments that he take up his eternal reward for a life well lived.
Colour Run
We’re excited for our Colour Run happening tomorrow from 1:40–3:00pm!
Children are welcome to wear white clothing to enjoy the full effect of the colour. Please also pack a towel to help dust off the colour and protect car seats for the journey home.
Don't forget to send in any last minute donations. We are also looking for the following items as additional to those assigned to each class:
- Lunchboxes
- Exercise books
- Special treats for hampers – lollies and sweets (that won’t melt!)
Summer Uniform - Term 4
A reminder that next term we will wear our summer uniform. Sport days will remain the same, being on Tuesday and Thursday.
Carpark
We would like to remind parents to refrain from parking in the front carparks facing the Grotto of an afternoon. These carparks are designated for our pick up point at 3:10pm for those families who are wishing to avoid the congestion at 3pm and remain in their vehicle while their children get in the car. This arrangment will be in place until our designated drop off and pick up point is created in the near future.
