Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

1.1.jpg

This week is National Child Protection Week. This day reminds us how important it is to play an active part in protecting our children. This year the theme is “Every child, in every community, needs a fair go.” Each of us plays a part in listening to what our children have to say, making sure that every child is safe and protected from abuse and harm.

Here at STM, we can see evidence of the strength of our community providing support, protection and opportunities to help keep our children safe. This happens through prayer, knowing the students in our care, taking safety seriously, Seasons for Growth, lunchtime groups, cyber-safety lessons and regular reminders about our expectations, to name a few.

Our children also need to know what to do and say when they feel unsafe. They need a trusted adult to go to, talk to and get help from. We need to notice when our children are not okay and we need to believe them when they tell us they’re not safe.

NAPLAN Results

For Yr. 3 and Yr. 5 parents: I honestly don’t know what is happening with the NAPLAN reports. There have been major issues this year in regard to publishing results and getting paper copies out to families. When I hear another update, I’ll let you know.

Uniform

If you are planning on buying new runners in the upcoming holidays, provided the shops are open of course, please ensure they are predominantly white. Also, there has been a slight production delay on our new sport polos due to border restrictions, etc. I will let you know as soon as they are available.

Book Week Parade

We will have our Book Week parade in Term 4. If there are restrictions on parents attending, we will still go ahead with the students. Date to be confirmed.

Term 4 Swimming

Two weeks’ ago, we received notification from the AIS that they were not able to hold the Junior swimming lessons next term. The reason for this was due to lockdown and the uncertainty of Canberra opening up next term. We have called around and haven’t had any luck in being able to attend another location. As a result, the lessons will not go-ahead next term. You will be refunded the swimming component in Term 4 school fees.

Birthdays

We are very sad to be missing the celebration of birthdays! We will celebrate all birthdays missed early next term.

Yours sincerely,
