Vinnies Night Patrol Van
Last week, our Mini Vinnies members had a visit from Matt and the Vinnies Night Patrol Van.
Matt spoke to us about Homelessness in Australia and then focused on what it would be like for those living in Canberra. He informed us about what the Night Patrol Van is and what the volunteers do when they take it out.
We then had a chance to look through the supplies that have been donated and had a think about what we might be able to donate in the upcoming winter appeal.
Then it was off to the kitchen where Matt and our “volunteers” served us hot milo to warm us up.
The students had so much to say about the experience:
“Even really small things can make a big difference in people’s lives.”
“I liked that we learnt about how it would feel to be a Vinnies volunteer and how we could help.”
“I learnt that it is super hard for homeless people and how one simple gesture can improve so much. One jumper or a drink, can transform someone’s life. It makes me so grateful for what I have.”
This was the perfect lead up for us to the Vinnies Winter Appeal which we will be launching in the coming weeks.
