Principal's Report
The Armour of God - Year 6 Captains 2023
At our first Centred in Faith Gathering we took the opportunity to break open our scripture focus for 2023 - Ephesians 6:10-18, and commission our Year 6 students into their captain roles. Fr Emil guided the students in their understanding of the scripture by dressing one of our Year 6 leaders in the armour referred to in the scripture with connections to the aspects of life that each item represents.
We then introduced our Year 6 Captains for 2023. The Year 6 cohort spent much time in 2022 developing a renewed vision for student leadership at St Thomas More's. In 2022 we decided that Year 6 students were eligible to nominate for a captaincy role based on a need within the school but that not all Year 6 students must nominate for a role.
We are pleased to announce that our Year 6 Captain roles for 2023 are:
We Think More to Grow in Wisdom - School Captains
We Encourage More to Grow in Courage - House Captains, Community Captains and Peer Support Captains
We Respect More to Grow in Peace - Sustainability Captains and Defence Captains

Swimming Carnival
We look forward to our Swimming Carnival in two weeks' time at Queanbeyan Aquatic Centre. As we continue to develop our understanding of Compass it has become apparent that the distinction between our competitive Year 2 swimmers and all older grades with our infant students was not clear. Our Kindergarten, Year One, and non-competitive Year Two students will attend the carnival from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm to cheer for the other students and participate in structured novelty events in the splash park. Our competitive Year Two swimmers and all older grades will swim in nominated races at the carnival from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm.
We need a number of volunteers in order for the carnival to run. This includes volunteers to support our structured novelty events and to support competitive swimming events. If you are able to volunteer please contact your child's class teacher.
Save the Date - Grandparents Day
We hope you have all been able to place your calendar of events on the fridge at home. We would like to highlight the date of Grandparents Day for this year which has been moved forward to Friday 24 March. We would encourage you all to get in contact with grandparents or special friends to have them save the date. We know that traveling interstate can often be challenging for our grandparents and have invited our parishioners and residents of Aloysius Morgan villas to attend the morning so that the students without a visitor can adopt a grandparent!
NAPLAN
Below is a parent brochure for NAPLAN 2023. NAPLAN will be completed by our Years 3 and 5 students commencing March 15. All dates and times of tests can be found in our school calendar on the website or in Compass. Please contact Kristy Poole at kristy.poole@cg.catholic.edu.au if you would like further information about the testing or wish to withdraw your child from NAPLAN.
